Ottawa – Canada and the European Union have reached an agreement on an equivalency in organic products.

The move, reports FoodNavigator.com, is expected to boost organic food trade between the two markets.

Canada and the EU both reviewed their rules for organic production and their control systems of organic agricultural products, reports EuroAlert.net. Both came to the conclusion that their approaches are equivalent to those laid down in their legislations.

As a result Canada will recognize all EU organic products as equivalent to the Canadian Organic Products Regulation.

From now on, their respective organic logos will be authorized to be used in each other’s markets.
