According to the latest data released by the Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Associaton (JMTBA), in May 2011, Japanese machine tool orders increased by 34.2% year-on-year to 108.16 billion yen (approximately US$1.35 billion). It was 1.1% higher than last month’s figure.The year-to-date orders amounted to 545.82 billion yen (approximately US$6.82 billion), representing an increase of 52.8% from the same period of last year.In May alone, Japan’s domestic and overseas order bookings were 32.52 billion yen (approximately US$405.92 million) and 75.65 billion yen (approximately US$944.27 million) respectively, representing a growth of 13.4% and 45.6% from the same month of last year.
In the first quarter of 2011, order bookings in the German machine tool industry showed three-figure growth rates.

Japan registered in March a year-on-year growth of 32.3% in machine tool orders, totaling 106.9 billion yen (approximately US$1.33 billion), according to preliminary data released by the Japan Machine Tool Builders’ Association (JMTBA).It was the 17th consecutive month for the figure to register an increase, though the growth rate was the smallest. It was also the fourth month in a row for the figure to exceed 100 billion yen.Overseas orders for Japanese machine tools amounted to 73.4 billion yen, accounting for 68.7% of the total orders received.
