FRANKFURT, Ger.—The world’s luxury car makers don’t seem overly worried about the potential of a looming economic downturn.

On a day which saw the unveiling of a new Ferrari and Lamborghini, Maserati unveiled its new luxury Kubang SUV at the Frankfurt Auto Show, which will be built at a Chrysler factory in Detroit on the same platform as its Jeep Cherokee.

The SUV is expected to go into production in 2013 but the company is staying tight-lipped about engine specifications. It has promised a V8, 8-speed automatic version.

Pricing hasn’t been announced, but it is expected the Italian car-maker will go after the luxury SUV market currently dominated by BMW’s X5 and X6, Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport, Mercedes’ AMG SUVs and the Jeep SRT8.
