NEW DELHI —Trade between India and Canada is expected to reach $15 billion by 2015 thanks to low production costs and enhanced innovation efforts between the two countries, according to senior Indian officials. Indo-Canadian trade currently stands at around $5 billion, but a tripling of that number is reasonable because of the immense complimentary opportunities in the industrial and services sectors and burgeoning manufacturing operations in India, says Yuen Pau Woo, CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada.

A recent report titled “India Automotive 2020: The Next Giant from Asia”, released by J.D.Power and Associates, indicates that India, the sixth-largest automotive market in the world in 2010, is expected to become one of the world’s three largest automotive markets by 2020.According to the report, sales of light vehicles (passenger cars and light-commercial vehicles) in India, a country with a population of nearly 1.2 billion, will reach 11 million units, making the country the third-largest light-vehicle market in the world, behind China (expected to reach 35 million light-vehicle sales in 2020) and the United States (expected to reach 17.4 million sales in 2020).In addition to policies favoring general market liberalization and encouraging foreign investment, India’s government has pursued policies meant to support the development of India’s automotive industry. MIBA reports 40% increase in Group sales

MIBA AG of Laakirchen, Austria, has reported a 40% increase in its Group sales for 2010-2011 to €437.2 million. 34% of this growth comes from its core segments of sintered components, engine bearings and friction materials. Group earnings before interest and taxes increased to €54.5 million (2009-2010: €16.4 million).

Bangalore, India — Wipro Technologies announced that Wipro’s Tarang of India and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Group will partner on providing localized testing and certification services in India. The agreement allows Wipro to provide compliance testing and certification services to companies developing products in India for international markets in diverse fields, such as information technology, medical, test and measurement, laboratory, industrial control equipment, etc. In a typical product development cycle where the testing and certification is around 6-12 weeks; the Wipro-CSA collaboration will help product companies speed up the product testing and certification by 20-30 per cent, CSA says.
