Yamazaki Mazak’s second Chinese plant breaks ground in Dalian

Japanese machine tool manufacturer Yamazaki Mazak held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new production plant in China on October 18.

The new plant, located in Dalian, Liaoning in northeast China, is the company’s second production plant in China, joining Ningxia Little Giant Machine Tool Co Ltd established in 2000.

It will also be the 10th main production plant of Yamazaki Mazak in the world.

Yamazaki Mazak invested 5 billion yen (approximately RMB400 million) in the new plant. It will cover about 120,000sq m. Production is expected to start in 2012.

According to Yamazaki Mazak, the new production plant will provide a large range of small turning centers and machining centers to meet the expanding market requirements in China. Additionally, it will have a spindle repair department to offer fast spindle rebuilding to minimize machine downtime.

In response to the increased market demands of China, Ningxia Little Giant will also be expanded next year in order to increase production. Since this plant has no further space available for additional expansion, Yamazaki Mazak saw a need to build a second plant in China, while Dalian was chosen because it is a rapidly industrializing area with many foreign companies already in operation and many more planned in the future.

Yamazaki Mazak adds that the new production facility will join the Yamazaki Mazak Dalian technology center that is already in operation which provides before and after sales service and support to customers in this area.
